We took Little Squirt to Kiddieland a few days ago. Kiddieland is Chicago-area s oldest amusement park, having opened in 1929. It s geared to youngsters belonging to the 10 and under crowd. I have a very faint memory of attending a grade school friend s birthday party at this very place. Every child growing up in Chicagoland ought to visit Kiddieland once. It s a classic.

I, however, came to the realization that I am too old for amusement parks. The heat, the long lines, empty ketchup packet holders and subsequent naked hot dogs, did not bring out my true Carnival Ride Spirit. It brought out my inner Crankmeister. At one point, while Little Squirt was cruising on a Mars mobile, I sought out a park bench to rest my weary back. I shared the bench comfortably with another woman at the other end. But then a third woman inched her way between us into a teeny space where no adult human backside should ever have gone. Subsequently, she booted my booty clear off the bench. Really now?!!

Dawn Bertuca is rather skeptical:
Kiddieland s Last Hurrah Dawn Bertuca | Aug 03, 2009 | Comments 1 The classic lighted Kiddieland sign on North Avenue (across the street from Maywood Park race track) brings back a wave of memories from my childhood: Pushing the handcars under the clattering tracks of the white wooden roller coaster. Clanging the bell of a speedboat floating in real water. Shooting imaginary rayguns out the back of a Sky Fighter. If you grew up in Chicagoland, as I did, going to Kiddieland was one of the rites of youth. Now, parents are rushing to give their little ones the experience of this classic amuse ment park before it s gone forever. After years of rumors, Kiddieland has officially announced it will close after this season. Hereâs why you should try to get there before the park shuts its gates on September 27.
Ruth points out another thing aside from that:

However, Ellis Family states that:
As a kid, one of my favorite memories was going to KIDDIELAND! It's a fun little amusement park just for KIDS! In fact, it is located right around the corner of where I am from (Melrose Park) right outside of Chicago. Not only did I love Kiddieland, but so did my parents and grandparents! Kiddieland is 81 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sadly, this is their last summer though. They are finally closing the doors and rumor has it that a Costco is going in :( When I heard the news, I knew I had to give my kids the kiddieland experience. They haven't changed a thing! The SAME rides are still there with the same look and colors as I knew it way back then! My dad and Mary took us and we had a blast riding all the rides! I don't know who loved it more, me or my kids :)

We arrived to find a ginormous line wrapped around the parking lot. The park, sadly, is closing down for good at the end of the month due to a family feud and some hot mess. It must have been the reason that every child in the state of IL plus all of their cousins were there with us. It was insanely crowded! But my child would not be thwarted. Long lines or no, he dragged us around in the hot sun to every attraction possible. We sampled bumper cars and roller coasters, ferris wheels and log rides.

Monday, August 3, 2009 Kiddieland, Part 1 Kiddieland is the closest amusement park to Chicago (in the nearby suburb of Melrose Park) and one of the oldest in the country (it first opened with a pony-ride attraction in 1929), but on September 27 of this year, it closes for good, due to a family dispute. (The Chicago Tribune published an in-depth, excellent article on Kiddieland's last season and the details of the dispute. You can read it
In response, EVA claims:
Secondly, I went to a Rootbeer stand that offered $2.00 drinks to kids ($3 for Adult). Well, my daughter couldnât get the kid price because it was after 11pm â" and they believe that there are no kids around at that time (maybe her eyesight was different than mine).
Adoresixtyfour scans the other's answers and reply:
Tina and Pete, who happen to live within short driving distance of the park, and took dozens of pictures, many of which will pop up on this here bloggity this week.
